Young golfers compete at South Surrey’s The Hills at Portal Golf Club

26 players advance to next stage in Notah Begay III Canadian Jr. Golf Championship Series

The Hills at Portal Golf Club in South Surrey was busier than usual with young golfers Saturday (March 30), during a qualifier where 17 boys and girls earned an invitation into the Notah Begay III Canadian Junior Golf Championship British Columbia Provincial Final.

Top performers from each division will now compete April 27-28 in the final, to be held at Golden Eagle Golf Club in Pitt Meadows, B.C.

In the Boys 16-18 Division, Manny Lalh of Nanaimo finished with a 72 – and the lowest round of the day – in his division, while Hunter Auramenko (Campbell River) and Milan Sangha (Victoria) tied for second, each finishing with a +2, 73.

In the same division, Surrey golfer Jintai Li also earned an invite to the British Columbia Provincial Final, along with Cohen Lacey (Victoria) and Brett Stouffer (Nanoose Bay).

Another Surrey golfer Terry Lee, earned an invite to the provincial final with a top-five finish in the Boys 14-15 Division.

In the Girls 14-15 Division, Connie Yang (Vancouver) finished on top with a round of 80 with Jennifer Zou (Coquitlam, B.C.) finishing in second.

Vancouver’s Ivan Chen (Boys 12-13 Division) closed with the lowest round of the day of any player in the tournament with a one-under, 71, which included five birdies. Tyler Eckerle (Bend, OR) wrapped up second place in the division.

In the Girls 12-13 Division, Victoria’s Anna Wu took first with a 79 on the day, with Angela Zou (Coquitlam) and Avva Nguyen (Richmond) finishing in second and third, respectively.

Young 10 and 11-year-old golfers also competed at the tournament, with North Vancouver’s Luke Gamley and Vancouver’s Chloe Lam winning their divisions with scores of 84 (each).

The top-qualifying players from the provincial final will be invited to the July 29-30 NB3 Canadian Jr. Golf Championship at The Kanawaki Golf Club, which will once again air on TSN.

Finally, the top qualifiers from the NB3 Canadian Jr Golf Championship will be invited to the U.S. Championship that is held in Louisiana every November and is featured on Golf Channel in December.
