A pair of players from Surrey have been selected to play for Team Canada West at the World Junior A Challenge tournament Dec. 11-17 in Bonnyville, Alberta.
Jeff Stewart and Michael Regush were named to the 22-player roster Thursday morning. Also named to the team was Desi Burgart, currently a teammate of Stewart with the BC Hockey League’s (BCHL) Surrey Eagles.
Regush plays for the Merritt Centennials, also of the BCHL.
Team Canada West players were selected from the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s five western Junior A leagues: the British Columbia Hockey League, Alberta Junior Hockey League, Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, Manitoba Junior Hockey League and Superior International Junior Hockey League.
The two Canadian teams, the other being Team Canada East, will join Russia, Czech Republic, Switzerland and the United States in the tournament.
Stewart is in his second season with the Eagles and has matched his goal total from his rookie year with 11. He also has 17 assists for 28 points in 29 games played.
Burgart has 12 goals and 30 points in 31 games played with the Eagles, while Regush has 11 goals and 25 points in 30 games with the Centennials.
