Two North Delta figure skaters and another from Cloverdale were thrilled to handle so many flowers during a special event in Vancouver.
Cloverdale’s Maisie St. James, 12, and North Deltans Leila McManus, 9, and Peyton Reid, 10, were among 16 dedicated flower retrievers during the 2018-19 Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, held at UBC’s Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre from Dec. 6 to 9.
“For young skaters, this is a dream come true to participate in a world-class event as they aspire to their own figure skating dreams,” Peyton’s mom, Denise Reid, told the Now-Leader.
“The girls were interviewed by international media outlets and Canadian broadcasters, and posed for photos with many fans.”
The event in Vancouver hosted both junior and senior levels of competition for the top six skaters in each category. World and Olympic medallists competed to be crowned ISU Grand Prix champs.
Added Reid: “Maisie competes at the Juvenile ladies level, representing the Connaught Skating Club in Richmond, and was a former member of the Sungod Skating Club, which is home to Leila and Reid, who currently compete at the Pre-Juvenile level.”
