Two promising athletes from Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary set meet records at a recent track and field invitational in Richmond.
Sprinter Stephanie Mernagh placed first in the 50m with a time of 6.95 seconds at the Gran Forza invitational, held indoors at the Richmond Oval March 10, Panthers track and field coach Derek Fournier reports.
Ben Ingvaldson also placed first in shot put with a throw of 16.56m. Both athletes were recognized with outstanding athlete awards for their performances, which set meet records. They also received iPhone 4s.
The tournament’s format saw athletes competing in individual events (50m, 800m, shot put, long jump and the 4x200 relay) and relays to accumulate points.
Tweedsmuir entered five teams, with top results from the senior boys, who placed 6th, the juvenile boys (Grades 8 and 9) who placed 4th, and the juvenile girls who earned third spot – a win that comes with a $500 bursary.
