B.C. Lieutenant Governor honours Victoria police officers for exemplary service

Officers of the Victoria Police Department received several awards during the fifth annual VicPD Honours Ceremony at Government House April 30.

The awards included:

  • Chief’s Unit Commendation – Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) – For exceptional response, investigation and prosecution of those involved in the homicide of Leslie Hankel.
    • Chief’s Commendation for Meritorious Service – Fatal Johnson Street Fire. For the initial response to fire and search for victims and containment of the area around 1320 Johnson St., where three people lost their lives Feb. 17, 2013.
      • Chief’s Commendation for Meritorious Service – A Career of Innovation and Exemplary Service to Det. (Ret.) Bob Elder
        • Chief’s Citizen’s Commendation and Deputy Chief Commendation – Insp. Andy Lacon and his daughter MacKenzie Lacon responded to an overturned boat on Lake Cowichan and helped rescue 14 people in the middle of the night.
