Letter: Teachers prove their true colours – they were fighting for students

Teachers have demonstrated the falsity of arguments thrown their way by government.

To the editor;

As they say, the proof is in the pudding. After months of frustrating negotiation impasses, significant personal financial sacrifices and a great deal of negative press, the teachers have proved their true colors – it wasn't the money but the students they been have fighting for.

By accepting 1.20 per cent per year salary increases plus a partial strike compensation fund (government pays back $105 million to avoid a future law suit that the government would be sure to lose) in exchange for improved overall system funding, the teachers have demonstrated the falsity of arguments thrown their way by the government.

They have also challenged their detractors and naysayers. Nobody expects the government to apologize for their actions, of course. But what would its supporters do? We will see, the proof is in the pudding, as they say.
