Norman Keyes passed away at home on the 10th of April 2021 at the age of 82 years surrounded by his loving family. Norm was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on the 4th of July 1938 and grew up on the family farm near Bow Island, Alberta.
He joined the RCAF at the age of 17 and served for 25 years with postings to Penhold, Alberta, Baden Soellingen, Germany, Trenton, Ontario and Comox, BC, as well as tour with United Nations forces in Egypt.
After leaving the Canadian Armed Forces, he spent 4 years working with Canadian Pacific Airlines, then 15 years working with BC Hydro before retiring in 1998.
Norm was married to Beverley (nee Hall) on the 19th of September, 1958. On their 61st anniversary in 2019, Norm was struck by a motor vehicle which caused him to spend the following eleven months in hospital, including a long period separated from the family during the Covid-19 lockdown. Norm returned to his home in August, where he could be with those close to him for the time that remained.
Surviving Norm along with Bev, are two sons, Brian (MaryLynn) of Red Deer, Alberta, and Ken (Orna) of Langley, BC, granddaughter, Sarah Keyes (Corey) of Langley, grandson, Shaun Keyes (Gabrielle) and great grandson, Noah of Kelowna.
He was predeceased by his sister Florence in 2004, and is survived by his sisters Shirley Wolfe and Judith Osborne-Keyes both of Medicine Hat, brothers Jerry Keyes (Dianne) of Nelson, BC, Alfred (Lynn) of Wetaskawin, Alberta, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Norm will be remembered by all for his easy-going, sociable nature, a wonderful sense of humor, and his kind and caring ways. A good man who will be greatly missed by those mentioned above that survive him, as well as his many, many friends.
Special thanks to our friend and caregiver, Elna Elfstrom, also to MaryLynn Downham. Our thanks to Dr. Norman Dang, Dr. Sukaina Kara and the Fraser Health Palliative Care team, to Michelle and Cameron at ICBC and to Occupational Therapist Tonya Elia.
