In loving memory ~
Julius Cotter passed away peacefully on August 28, 2023, at his home in Surrey, B.C. He was three months shy of his 99th birthday. Julius was born in Óhíd, Hungary, in 1924 and emigrated with his family at the age of four. He served as a wireless operator and instructor in the Canadian Air Force. An electronics technician by training, he later owned a television and stereo store. Julius loved nature and the outdoors (a love he shared with his family), liked to hunt, and fish, and endlessly searched creeks and mountains for rocks. Julius was well known for his rockhounding and fine lapidary work, and for his jadeolin and jade violin. A lifelong harmonica and violin player, Julius enjoyed jamming with his good friends, especially at the farm and did so just two weeks prior to his death. Julius and Joyce were regulars at the dances and square dances, where he sometimes called.
Julius was one-of-a-kind and will be missed by many. True to his independent character, he left this world on his own terms. Julius was determined to stay in his home and his daughters—along with many good-hearted neighbours—were able to support him in that.
Julius was predeceased by his second wife Joyce, who died a few months ago at 97, and his first wife Izolda. He is survived by his three daughters, Kathy (Kent), Linda (Tom), Arlene, his five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and Joyce's children Elaine (Steve), Steve and Brenda, and his friend Randy Lord. To honour our father's wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service, and no flowers, please. Instead, we thank you for your place in his life and invite you to celebrate Julius's memory privately in your own way.
