Surrey Fire Service's Hazmat (Hazardous Materials) response team suits up outside the Surrey Tax Centre to deal with a suspicious package.

UPDATE: White powder at Surrey Tax Centre harmless

Police and Hazmat teams were called out to building at 97 Avenue and King George Boulevard after suspicious white powder.

Surrey RCMP and Surrey Fire Hazmat members have determined that a white powder found at the Surrey Taxation Centre Friday morning was benign and poses no immediate health threat.

Emergency personnel were called out to the 9700-block of King George Boulevard Friday morning after a suspicious powder was discovered near the loading dock at the rear of the building.

At one point there was a report of 19 people contained in a room. They were evacuated from the building, but have now been allowed to re-enter.
