UPDATE: Two overpass collisions lead to Highway 1 closures near Abbotsford and Langley

Highway 1 was closed westbound at both No. 3 Road and 264th Sreet after Monday morning incidents

A pair of overpass collisions on Highway 1 slowed traffic for commuters in Abbotsford and Langley on Monday morning (May 29).

Highway 1 in Abbotsford was closed westbound at the Number 3 Road exit after a truck collided with the overpass on Monday morning (May 29). Meanwhile, the highway was also closed westbound at 264th Street in Langley after reports of a similar incident the same morning.

It appeared a flatbed semi truck failed to clear the overpass, knocking a large industrial apparatus on to the road and snapping the trailer.

Traffic was slow after the road was reopened to single lane traffic.

The Abbotsford Police Department says a fully-loaded dump truck struck the No. 3 Road overpass at approximately 5:20 a.m. on Monday. The driver lost control of the truck after its front-side tire blew, resulting in a collision with the overpass support posts.

The truck immediately burst into flames but the driver is not injured and the fire was later extinguished.

According to Drive BC, the highway opened at both No. 3 Road and 264th Street at approximately 1 p.m but delays were still expected due to congestion.
