Teen struck by SUV

Surrey RCMP are investigating a pedestrian accident Friday night that sent a 16-year-old girl to hospital with critical injuries.

A 16-year-old Dawson Creek resident was taken to hospital Friday night after being struck by an SUV on Highway 10 in Cloverdale.

The girl, who was visiting family in the Lower Mainland, was crossing the roadway in the middle of the block when she was struck by a westbound SUV. Crews were called to Highway 10 and 180 Street around 10 p.m., and found the victim unconscious. She was airlifted to Royal Columbian Hospital with extensive head and body injuries, Surrey RCMP say.

The incident is still under investigation.

RCMP say alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the collision.

They say the girl was wearing dark clothing and there was very little artificial light in the area where the collision occurred. The roadway was also wet.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
