A team of companies has been chosen to design and build the eight new stations for the Surrey/Langley SkyTrain extension.
The project will extend the Expo Line 16 kilometres primarily along Fraser Highway from King George SkyTrain Station in Surrey to Langley City.
From the applications the province choose South Fraser Station Partners to enter into contract negotiations. The South Fraser Station Partners team is comprised of:
• Aecon Constructors, a division of Aecon Construction Group Inc., a contractor;
• Acciona Infrastructure Canada Inc. which is building the Site-C hydroelectric dam project, the Pattullo Bridge replacement, and the extension of the Millennium Line of the Broadway subway;
• Pomerleau BC Inc., a construction firm; and
• AECOM Canada Ltd., an infrastructure consulting firm.
In addition to building the stations, they will be responsible for the cycling and walking paths around the new stations. The province will be negotiating with the South Fraser Station Partners as the designs are finalized but the team will start early works on the project, such as pre-construction site surveys, locating utilities, geotechnical drilling, and station design work.
Other early works are underway along the Fraser Highway corridor. This includes work to relocate power lines and prepare for the start of major construction this year. People who travel the Fraser Highway should plan additional travel time or consider alternative routes, as work is taking place in multiple locations along the corridor.
Major construction is expected to begin this year.
The Surrey Langley SkyTrain project is being delivered through three separate contracts. Last month, the Province announced that SkyLink Guideway Partners has been chosen as the preferred proponent to design, build and finance the elevated guideway and associated roadworks, utilities and active transportation elements of the project.
The competitive selection process for the systems and track-work contract is ongoing. Requests for proposals for all three phases were issued in early 2023. Formal contract-award announcements are anticipated in the coming months.
