A Surrey registered nurse (RN) has been disciplined for “practice issues” that occurred between May 28, 2022, and April 21, 2023
The British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) stated in a public notice on April 3 that Anna Fronek failed to provide basic nursing care to her patients.
This includes failing to ensure that patients go to the toilet in a “timely and compassionate manner,” not talking to patients and their families professionally and failing to administer medication “in compliance with the BCCNM medication administration standards.”
On Wednesday (April 3), Fronek voluntarily agreed to the terms the BCCNM inquiry committee set, which include:
Fronek’s nursing registration will be suspended for four weeks. She will receive a public reprimand and must develop a learning plan. She must also take corrective education in ethics, professional responsibility and accountability, and client-centred care.
She will also have several practice limits that require her to be “employed by only one employer.” She is also prohibited from orienting new staff and supervising students.
This is not the first time Fronek has been disciplined.
Her nursing licence was suspended in February 2021 for a number of practice issues, including failing to escalate care in a timely manner for a patient who was deteriorating. According to a BCCNM release, these incidents occurred between May of 2019 and March of 2020.
