The City of Surrey has awarded $581,205 in grants to 78 arts, culture and heritage groups this year.
The Cultural Grants Program has allocated more than 850 grants since 2013, according to a press release issued Wednesday. The funding supports a “diverse range of cultural experiences, including music, dance, theatre, visual arts, festivals and events, and more,” it reads.
Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke, in the press release, states that these grants “help organizations enrich our diverse cultural scene and create meaningful and memorable experiences for residents. By investing in our arts and heritage sectors, we are not only preserving our community’s history and identity, but also fostering creativity and innovation for future generations to enjoy.”
Grants are available in three categories – cultural celebrations, projects, and operating grants – and in 2023, the City awarded more than $550,000 to 70 organizations.
