Surrey career fair focused on job opportunities and post-secondary education

Event ran from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, in the Civic Ballroom

Thousands of people seeking employment attended Black Press Media’s “Hiring & Post-Secondary Education Expo” on Friday (Oct. 13) at the Civic Hotel in Surrey.

The free event had representatives from over 27 hiring employers and 11 educational and post-secondary institutions.

Surrey resident, Venus Cornell, came prepared with resumes in hand. She is looking for a job in events planning. “So this (job fair) would be a good opportunity to find out what companies have events.”

Surrey City Councillor Linda Annis thinks job fairs are the perfect place for employers to reach potential hires.

“Creative events like this job fair really help to raise the profile of jobs that are available, and these days where there are more jobs than people to fill them, so you need to think outside the box if you’re an employer,” Annis said.

Job fairs are a “pretty efficient use of your time if you’re interested in a new job or career,” Annis said.

Annis said she is committed to creating more businesses in Surrey.

“An event like this certainly helps let people know about some jobs and opportunities that might be closer to home with less time commuting to their cities around Metro Vancouver.”

The career fair ran from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, in the Civic Ballroom at Surrey’s Civic Hotel, 13475 Central Avenue.

Black Press hosts 5 hiring expos across the Lower mainland every year.
