Badger the rescue horse will be meeting and greeting up a storm at a fundraising event in Fort Langley for Semiahmoo Animal League (SALI) next weekend.

The farm, made possible through a generous offer of use of a Fort Langley property, provides a safe haven for at-risk children and rescued farm animals.

On Sept. 14, SALI hosts the 2013 Black Tail & Boots Barn Dance at the farm.

It gets underway at 5 p.m., and features a gourmet local dinner, hay rides, a barn dance and an opportunity to meet Badger.

Just over a year ago, Badger became the first rescue animal at SALI's Farm. He has since healed from the abuse and neglect he suffered as a foal, but is lame and has severe navicular.

Now helping children as a four-legged therapist, Badger is the star attraction at Black Tail and Boots, a fundraiser for SALI's community programs, and its goal to purchase farmland of its own.

“Our goal is to encourage people to make the world a better place for animals, and to support animals to make the world a better place for people,” says Keryn Denroche, Executive Director at SALI.

“We are able to do what we do because of the community and volunteers that support us, and the barn dance event is a great way to show our appreciation and raise funds to continue our goals, while having a lot of fun.”

The guest speaker is Eileen Bona of Dreamcatcher Nature Assisted Therapy and the evening's MC is Matt Grant.

There will be a silent auction featuring celebrity pet bowls by Michael Buble, Bif Naked and Victoria Duffield. Tickets are $75.

The deadline to purchase tickets to the event is Tuesday, Sept. 10. For more information about SALI or the event, visit www.sali.ca.
