Congratulations are in order for Tyler Hireen and Anthony Smith, two Clayton Heights Secondary students who've returned home from the national skills contest with bronze medals.
Hireen earned his bronze in welding; Smith in website development, School District 36 announced earlier this week.
Both students were gold medal winners at the provincials in April, qualifying them for the Skills Canada National Competition in Edmonton, where 500 students across Canada competed at the national level.
The skills competition tests students against their peers in more than 40 trade and technology areas, from robotics and cooking to carpentry and computer animation.
The annual Skills Canada competition aims to boost awareness and interest in trades and technology as career options for students.
It's anticipated by 2020, there will be a trades shortage of about 1 million workers in Canada.
