A little competition doesn’t hurt anybody — in fact, this competition helped the Surrey Food Bank.
The second annual Battle for the Bank raised $11,279 for the Surrey Food Bank on Nov. 15. The fundraiser was hosted by Surrey’s Chris Whitehead & Associates real estate team at Coast Wholesale Appliances.
The event had three groups go head-to-head in a “culinary showdown” with 150 guests in attendance, according to a press release from the Surrey Food Bank Wednesday (Dec. 5).
This year’s event sponsors included Steve Ponte, Ravi Munday and Karmel Hasel with PHL Capital Corp; Rowan Smith with CityWide Mortage Services; Sean Hogan of Buckley Hogan Law Offices; and this year’s winners Sibyle Stipp and Sally Ngo with Cutco Closing Gifts.
Each kitchen prepped and served dishes designed by chef Brandon Dac and of Boy with a Knife, reads the release. After sampling each kitchens dish, complete with wine pairing, each guest cast their vote for which kitchen should be named the winner, with proceeds from the evening being made out to the Surrey Food Bank in the winner’s name.
The event also featured more than a dozen raffle prizes, all generously donated by local Surrey businesses.
In the last two years, according to the food bank, the Battle for the Bank fundraiser has helped to raise more than $20,000 for the Surrey Food Bank at “a time of year when donations are needed most.”
Recently, the Surrey Food Bank honoured some of its donors at the annual Christmas Open House on Nov. 24. Thirteen organizations, people and groups received awards from the food bank for their contributions over the years.
