The Surrey RCMP are looking for a few good men and woman to help volunteer to keep the city safe as part of the Auxiliary Constable Program.
Do you have an interest in policing or the criminal justice system? Do you want to advance your career and gain more experience? Do you want a physical and mental challenge? Do you believe volunteering should be more than just sitting behind a desk? Then becoming an Auxiliary Constable may be the opportunity for you.
The Surrey RCMP Auxiliary Constable Program is currently holding mandatory information sessions for Canadian citizens interested in joining the Auxiliary team.
“We are looking for diverse mix of individuals with a strong desire to make a difference and give back to their community,” said Auxiliary Program Manager Merv Bayda. “Auxiliaries come from many different backgrounds, but they all have the same goal in mind – to make Surrey a safer place for all its citizens.”
Auxiliary constables assist police officers with community based policing and crime prevention programs along with assisting officers in the field in various circumstances. Auxiliaries must also complete a basic training program that consists of 250 hours of classroom and practical instruction.
“It is a significant commitment however the rewards are immeasurable,” said Bayda. “When you join our team you become a real difference maker with a solid understanding of crime reduction and the issues facing our community.”
Information sessions continue to Feb. 16 at City of Surrey council chambers at city hall (14245 56 Ave.).
The next information session is Saturday, Feb. 2 at 12 p.m. There are also sessions Feb. 5, 7 and 13 at 7 p.m., and at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. Feb. 16.
