Hundreds of gifts were delivered to seniors on the Semiahmoo Peninsula Thursday (Dec. 14), following enthusiastic response to this year’s local Be A Santa to a Senior campaign.
Hosted by the White Rock office of Home Instead – which provides in-home senior care services – the program is aimed at brightening the season for older adults in need.
It works by inviting those interested to choose a paper ornament from a multitude on display at sites around the community. Each ornament bears the name of a senior, as well as a gift they have asked for.
Donors purchase the item, then return it to the delivery box location at the display, for distribution by Home Instead.
This year’s holiday effort marked the program’s 20th anniversary.
On Friday (Dec. 15), the team delivered gifts and funds for a Christmas dinner at the Ellen Sinclair Kennett Lodge. The facility – formerly Peace Arch Hospital Foundation Lodge – was renamed in June 2023 in honour of the long-time community volunteer and first chair of the PAHF.
