The nominations for the first-ever Clovies are out.
Twenty-five finalists have been nominated for the inaugural awards, launched this year by the Cloverdale Chamber of Commerce as a way to recognize businesses and individuals who are making a difference in their community.
The are three finalists in each of seven categories recognizing business excellence, and individual leadership except for one – the award for best non-profit organization, which has five finalists.
The winners will be announced at the Clovies Awards Night event at Northview Golf Club on April 14, when Cloverdale’s best and brightest business leaders and community-minded organizations and individuals will be celebrated.
Nominations were open to non-members and the finalists are:
Business Excellence under 18 Employees:

• This award honours a smaller business that has continuously demonstrated service excellence and a commitment to the community through dedication and perseverance.
Business Excellence 18 and over employees:
Michaud’s Salon Spa Wellness Centre
Southridge Building Supplies
Dublin Crossing Irish Pub
• This award recognizes a larger business that exemplifies customer service while embracing innovation and providing a positive work environment for its employees to grow and develop.
The Bill Reid Memorial Business Person of the Year:
Mike MacSorley (Cloverdale Rodeo and Exhibition Association)
Lyle MacMillan (MacMillan, Tucker and MacKay)
Jen Temple, Hillcrest Shopping Centre
• The award recognizes an individual who has proven business acumen, who promotes the community at every opportunity and is an inspiration leader within his or her organization.

• This award recognizes an organization that embraces environmental stewardship and demonstrates how sustainability practices leave our planet a better place for future generations.

• This award honours a start up that’s at least 12 months old – and no more than 24 months since incorporation – that has produced outstanding results in a short period of time.
Not-For-Profit of the Year

Eversafe Ranch Outreach Society
SOS Children’s Village B.C.
Friends of the Surrey Museum and Archives
Surrey Association for Community Living
• This honours a non profit organization, charity, community association or society that is making significant strides within its sphere of influence and adding value to the community.
Young Entrepreneur of the Year
Barket Farafoszyn, Bartek Construction Ltd.
Chelsea Ann Bailey, Archivist, Surrey Museum and Archives
Dr. Priya Vohora and Maneet Sandu, Eye Optometry
• The award recognizes a rising star aged 39 or younger with entrepreneurial instincts who is making a difference in their organization and the community.
You don’t have to be a chamber member to attend the Clovies Awards Night.
Along with the awards, there will be entertainment, an auction, and door prizes. Auction items include an executive box for a Vancouver Whitecaps FC game where the recipient will meet both Bob Lenarduzzi and Carl Valentine, Canadian Soccer Hall of Famer.
There is also a chance to win a spot in the Canucks alumni tournament, along with prizes that can be used to advertise or market your business, including an advertising opportunity for a high-visibility digital display sign.
“There’s going to be lots of fun,” he said. The attire is business casual.
Tickets are $75 or $750 for a table of 10.
