Mann Park Lawn Bowling Club held their first open house of the season on Saturday (April 20) to an interested lawn-bowling public.
Coaches provided those who dropped in with an introduction to the game in the warm spring sunshine, with several curlers from the neighbouring Peace Arch Curling Club coming by to give it a try.
“The two games are very similar and the two seasons complement each other well,” said Gaston Essiambre, president of Mann Park, and a curler himself, in an email. “In fact, we are inviting curlers to attend an open house especially for them on April 30 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.”
Lawn bowling is a low-impact, strategic game that is great for all ages and abilities, no matter what their skill level.
“Our trained coaches provide introductory lessons at no charge, and lawn bowls are provided free for the season to our novice players as well,” noted head coach Pat Smart.

Mann Park welcomes new members to enjoy lawn bowling daily throughout the summer on natural grass greens. Social fun nights take place throughout the season as well, and dinner dances in the winter keep everyone in touch.
Locals looking for a way to get active, make new friends, and enjoy some fresh air and sunshine are invited to attend the next open house at Mann Park – 14560 North Bluff Rd. (in the northwest corner of Centennial Park) – on May 4, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Members of the club will also have a booth set up at the White Rock Farmers Market on Sunday, April 28 providing information about the sport.
