The Surrey Eagles celebrate a goal as Teddy bears are tossed on the ice during last season's Teddy bear toss event.

Surrey Eagles to hold Teddy-bear toss Saturday

Annual event benefits Surrey Christmas Bureau and Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary

The Surrey Eagles’ annual Teddy-bear toss event is set for this Saturday, when the BCHL team hosts the Merritt Centennial at South Surrey Arena.

Fans are encouraged to bring new or gently-used stuffed toys to the game, which will then be tossed onto the ice after the Eagles’ first goal. The stuffed critters will then be collected and donated to the Surrey Christmas Bureau and Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary, who in turn will distribute to the toys to children in need. Last year, more than 500 bears were collected.

Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary members will also sell bears at the rink Saturday, if fans do not bring their own and still wish to take part.

Saturday’s game starts at 7 p.m.
