Two weeks after he was selected third overall by the Vancouver Giants in the Bantam Draft, Surrey’s Justin Sourdif has signed a Standard Player Agreement with the Western Hockey League team.

The signing means Sourdif has committed to playing for the Giants in the 2018-19 season. As a 15-year-old, he is permitted by play just five games in the WHL next season. Sourdif will play for the Valley West Hawks of the B.C. Major Midget League in 2017-18.

“I’m pretty excited,” said Sourdif. “I was happy to finally have that piece of paper in front of me and to share the moment of signing the contract with my Mom and Dad. I’m looking forward to the future with the Giants.”

Sourdif played at the Delta Hockey Academy last season, scoring 32 goals and 66 points in 29 games with the academy’s Bantam Varsity team in the Canada Sports Schools Hockey League.

“It’s a privilege for our organization to sign a local product like Justin,” said Giants general manager Glen Hanlon. “He will have the chance to continue his hockey career in the Lower Mainland, and his family will be able to watch him for years to come wearing a Giants sweater.”
