Team BC won the gold medal in baseball at the Canada Summer Games in Sherbrooke, Quebec, with five players from Surrey contributing. B.C. defeated New Brunswick 7-0 in the semifinal round, then stopped Ontario 7-0 in the final.

Ryan Pouwells, a second baseman from the Whalley Chiefs of the BC Premier Baseball League (PBL) was two-for-three with an RBI in the win over New Brunswick. Left fielder Justin Lawrence, a member of the PBL’s Langley Blaze went one-for-two with two runs scored while Blaze teammate and third base Mitchell Robinson was one-for-four. Dylan Yeager, playing first base and from the White Rock Tritons, was one-for-two with a double and a run scored.

Pitcher Scott Doucet, also a member of the Tritons, pitched one inning in relief and struck out two of the three batters he faced.

Lawrence added another hit, and he and Yeager scored a run each in the win over Ontario.
