Members of the Surrey Storm '95 Gold team wear the medals that they earned after they placed first at the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship July 15-24.

The Surrey Storm play host at one of the biggest tournaments of the year,  and it's all happening in Cloverdale this weekend.

The top U18A girls softball teams are converging at Cloverdale Athletic Park for the provincials, getting underway Friday morning.

Eleven teams are competing, with the top four advancing to next month's nationals in Prince Edward Island Aug. 12-18.

The Surrey Storm '95 Gold team is an acknowledged powerhouse in B.C. and is a favourite to win.

Last week the team won gold at the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championships at Softball City in South Surrey.

Six players are from Surrey, six from Langley, and one each from Abbotsford, North Van and Delta.

For a lot of the players, it's their last year with the team – a number have graduated and are heading to universities in Canada and the U.S. this fall, making this weekend an important one for them all.

The first game starts at 11:30 a.m. The finals will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 28.
