The Cloverdale Curling Centre’s first bonspiel of the year took place at the turn of 2017. The three-day, five-game event attracted 24 teams of seniors from across the Lower Mainland, including teams from Squamish, Tsawwassen, White Rock and Chilliwack.
Chairman Paul Davies welcomed the good sportsmanship and great competition at the twenty-third annual event.
Eldest among a number of octogenarians was Glen Tibbatts from Tunnel Town Curling Club.
At 89-years-old, Tibbatts agreed that curling is a “slippery game.”
Bill Elli’s rink from Chilliwack dominated the competition for the second year in a row. Elli said playing in the annual bonspiel was a great way to start 2017, and he thanked the local organizers and President Mike Bergerman for an enjoyable time.
Abbotsford’s Charlie Lindsay team placed second and Wayne Collinge’s rink from Richmond came in third place. The best of the Cloverdale entries was the Cliff Hodson foursome, which came in the top ten.
