Like some of the neighbours, local resident Jim Foulkes was also disappointed by the city’s recent decision – at the request of the Surrey Lawn Bowling Club – to remove healthy cherry trees growing next to the bowling green at Clayton Park, pictured above.

He says installing a simple trencher panel of plastic along the field would have eliminated the possibility of roots reaching the fence around the green. Foulkes is a former member of Surrey’s Heritage Advisory Commission and current director of the Surrey Historical Society.
