Letter: Surrey trustee repeats call to premier to end B.C.'s education dispute

Laurie Larsen says premier Clark and MLA Fassbender need to bring all parties together for 'unfettered mediation'.

Dear honourable Premier Christy Clark and MLA Fassbender,

I had written to you earlier about mediation when the dispute between the BCTF and the government reached a stalemate in June. I did not receive a response from either of you at that time.

I am again writing to the both of you to request that you not only support getting Vince Ready to the table but assist in bringing all parties together as soon as possible.

As a trustee I will again state that is not only the teachers and staff that cannot do the job they have been hired to do but all trustees cannot do the job they have been elected to do.

I am again asking you both to not only encourage the BCTF,  the government, and mediator Vince Ready to immediately engage in unfettered mediation so all our children can receive the education they deserve and teachers and staff can do the professional job they all have been hired to do.

I am very concerned about the worry of parents about their children's educational future and daycare issues, the administration staff that have been caused undue pressure, trustees who cannot do their job, CUPE staff who are also hampered and affected by this disruption but most of all the students who are missing out on the education and instruction they deserve!

Just so I am very clear, I am writing to you as a concerned trustee, but not from the direction of the Surrey School Board of Trustees. I am sure they all want this dispute to end and would want mediation to begin, I will not speak on their behalf.

Sincerely, Trustee Laurie Larsen

Vice Chair, Surrey School Board
