Letter: Legalizing it would go too far

As a Canadian citizen, mother, and recovering addict, I am disturbed about the debate of the legalization of marijuana.

To the editor;

As a Canadian citizen, mother, and recovering addict, I am disturbed about the debate of the legalization of marijuana.

My concern is if Dana Larsen gets the 400,000 signatures for his Sensible BC Campaign, it’s just one step towards the legalization of marijuana.

It frightens me to even think that marijuana might be around even more than it already is. It will also be more available to youth, who would be four times more prone to suffer from a psychotic disorder – like schizophrenia. Marijuana could even put them at risk of addiction; and I am sure no one would want that for their child.

I recognize that people actually need marijuana for medical issues which is fine. So let the people who need it have it; but why just let people have it because they want it? Legalizing it would just be going too far. I hope the right decision is made!
