Letter: A Liberal party beatdown? Call it a parting gift

True, the B.C. Liberals have been written off for dead by many ‘professionals,’ and I must admit that I like the way that sounds.

True, the B.C. Liberals have been written off for dead by many ‘professionals,’ and I must admit that I like the way that sounds.

If such becomes the actual case, as a parting gift to the B.C. populace, they could lose ASAP their blatant misnomer party title (a practice that most political parties unfortunately adopt). But the B.C. “Liberal” Party is going way too far.

The party was once fairly close to being truly ‘liberal,’ albeit while under the leadership of the most progressive of the three Gordons (Wilson, I believe), when the party finally made it onto the scene as Official Opposition in 1991, on top of smoldering Socred ruins.

But the current B.C. Liberal Party does not get any closer to being ‘liberal’ than whatever’s ‘liberal’ about their true Libertarian ideology (look it up; it can get kind of scary in its more fervent mode).

I guess it’s all something quite like that paradox Progressive Conservative Party thing …
