A 38-year-old woman believed to be responsible for a fatal stabbing in Cedar Hills on the weekend has been released from custody while police attempt to determine what took place leading up to the event.
At just after 2 a.m. Sunday, RCMP received a call of an incident in the 12100-block 96A Avenue and on arrival, Mounties found a 53-year-old man dead outside his home. Shortly later, the police had a woman in custody.
Then on Monday, police said they had released the Surrey woman while the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) determines what role each of them played leading up to the fatal stabbing.
RCMP Sgt. Peter Thiessen said police are not looking for another suspect in the stabbing.
"At this point we didn't have enough evidence to hold or charge our female suspect at this point," Thiessen said, adding the two were known to each other. "We're attempting to establish what that relationship was."
He noted they were not in any kind of common law relationship and could not say what, if any, injuries the woman sustained during the evening of the stabbing.
"We're still trying to document her condition," Thiessen said.
Investigators were still on the scene Monday afternoon, while they tried to secure warrants to search two residences 12171 and 12179 96A Avenue – two homes which are side by side.
Police have identified the man who was killed, but aren't releasing his name until his family is notified.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken custody of the case.
