Surrey has logged its 19th murder of the year, as a man was found Friday, shot to death in the driveway of his Surrey home.

At about 5 a.m., at 156 Street and 86 Avenue, neighbours heard about three gunshots and a car speeding away afterward.

Surrey RCMP and paramedics arrived to find 35-year-old Satwant Singh Bains dead inside his vehicle.

Police say Bains had just said good bye to his wife and kids before heading off to work.

As soon as he got into his vehicle, he was shot.

Bains' body was  slumped out of the driver's side door of a car parked in the driveway.

The integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken custody of the case and is currently investigating.

Bains does not have a criminal record, said police, who added the shooting was targeted.

IHIT is continuing to look for a motive to the shooting.

The death brings the number of murders in Surrey this year to 19, well past the last decade's annual average of 14.

It also comes close to the annual high-water mark  for the last decade, which was in 2005, when there were 21 killings in Surrey.

IHIT is looking for a white four-door sedan that sped off westbound on 86 Avenue just after the shooting.

Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call the IHIT tip line at 1-877-557-4448 or to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
