A body found in a wooded area in Newton on Friday has yet to be identified.

Police cordoned off the area near Hazelnut Park near 139 Street and 70 Avenue for several hours to investigate last week.

Surrey RCMP said they are working with the BC Coroner's Service to confirm an identity, saying only that it was an adult male.

The cause of death is also unconfirmed at this point and Cpl. Bert Paquet said reports that the body was burned are being investigated as well.

Police said early indications were that foul play is not a factor in the death.
