Two people are in hospital after a huge explosion and fire in the Guildford area this week.
Emergency personnel were called to a home at 15890 100 Ave. on Thursday at about 8:30 p.m. after reports of an explosion and a fire.
While fire crews were hammering down the blaze, police were alerted a man and woman checked themselves into hospital with serious burns.
A 24-year-old woman from Surrey had suffered extreme burns to her arms and legs, while a 29-year-old Surrey man experienced burns to his legs.
Both are expected to be fine and are also "well-known" to police for drug offenses.
The explosion originated in the garage behind the home, police say.
Surrey RCMP Cpl. Bert Paquet said the clandestine lab team from the RCMP checked the building and have ruled out the possibility the two were making drugs.
"There's evidence of drug use at the scene, but not the quantities or specific chemicals that are usually associated with a meth lab or to a drug production of some sort," Paquet said Thursday.
Police also had reports that there were a five or six people in the house, but fled after the explosion.
Neighbours observed a four-door grey Honda left the scene through the alleyway, but it was unclear how many occupants were in the car.
"We believe there might have been other people involved, but we haven't been able to locate or speak to them," Paquet said.
There was some damage to nearby homes and vehicles as well.
There are no charges expected at this point, Paquet said, adding more will be known about that as investigators comb through the scene Friday.
