Surrey RCMP is appealing to the public to help return military memorabilia stolen last week during a residential break-and-enter.
The items, which include a framed collection of Second World War medals and keepsakes, were taken between 11a.m. and 4 p.m. on June 14, from a home in the 6300-block of 126 St.
According to police, they belonged to the homeowner's deceased father.
“It’s hard to imagine the heartache felt by this victim at having some of the last few memories of his father being stolen,” Cpl. Scotty Schumann said in a news release issued Friday morning.
“It defies logic as to why someone would even want to steal them, given their value is purely sentimental. Hopefully, the suspect will realize this and return the collection or someone will recognize it and help get it back to its rightful owner.”
Police say they have not located witnesses to the theft.
Anyone with information that could lead to recovery of the items and identification of those responsible for the crime is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 of Crime Stoppers, 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca
