Southgate Church is hosting an event to bring residents displaced by last Sunday's fire at Paddington Station some Christmas cheer.

On Saturday, Dec. 17, they will host a dinner at the church, 5501 204 St., and afterward, will bus  everyone to the Clova Theatre in Cloverdale for a free screening of the Christmas favourite, Elf, and treats.

The bus will then take residents back to the church for the opening of gifts that have been donated by local businesses.

The church is currently in the process of putting together 86 gift bags — one for each unit in the building and still needs a bit of help. Specifically, they are looking for gift cards from local businesses such as Superstore, Save-On-Foods, Old Navy and Walmart.

They are not able to accept donations of clothing or other household items.

Southgate Church will issue tax receipts for donations, including donations of cash. The church is working directly with the strata council, to ensure donations are given to the affected occupants of the building.

Those who would like to help, or donate gifts and gift cards, are asked to contact the church at 604-532-7769.

Anyone who plans to attend the dinner is asked to RSVP, if possible, to debbie@southgatechurch.ca.
