Clayton Heights Secondary's Kayla Wold signs the anti-bullying pledge on the poster she designed.

This year's Anti-Bullying Day poster for Surrey students was designed by Clayton Heights Secondary's Kayla Wold.

Copies of the poster have been distributed to all Surrey schools, where students are adding their signatures, vowing to help recognize, prevent, resolve and eventually eliminate bullying in society.

Surrey's schools have also been provided with pink wristbands printed with the slogan, "See Something, Say Something."

The student pledges mark Pink Shirt Anti-Bullying Day, an annual campaign that began in Nova Scotia four years ago, when two students noticed a younger child being bullied for wearing pink. They and their classmates wore pink T-shirts to school the next day to show their support for the harassed boy – and send a message to bullies.

Now nation-wide, the movement marks the last Wednesday in February, when schools, individuals and businesses wear pink to show they're against bullying, wherever it occurs.

Since early February, students in kindergarten through Grade 5 were invited to share stories, videos and art on Surrey’s anti-bullying website (www.psst-bc.ca) for a contest, the winner of which will be announced Wednesday. An anti-bullying video acting/singing contest for students in Grade 6 and up is still open (also at psst-bc.ca) until March 2.
