Police seek Surrey taxi robbery suspect

Driver struggled with armed passenger before he fled.

Surrey RCMP has released a photo of a suspect in an attempted taxi robbery in hopes the public can help identify the man.

The incident occurred on Oct. 5 at about 12:30 a.m. when a taxi driver reported he had been robbed at the intersection of 108 Avenue and City Parkway in North Surrey. The driver had picked up a man at the Surrey Central bus loop. Once at the destination, the passenger produced a weapon and attempted to rob the driver.

A struggle ensued and the suspect fled on foot northbound on City Parkway. He did not get anything from the driver, but the driver sustained a minor cut to his forearm in the struggle.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 20 years old, with short dyed blond hair, wearing a black hoodie with a checker design, blue jeans and a backpack.

The police warn that challenging a suspect is not something they recommend.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or if you wish to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or solvecrime.ca
