Surrey RCMP believe this is a piece from the bumper of a Honda Prelude that hit and killed a man in Bridgeview on Dec. 4.

Police seek hit-and-run suspect in connection with man’s death in Surrey

RCMP are asking the public to keep an eye out for a Honda Prelude with a missing bumper.

A man who died after being found on a Bridgeview road was the victim of a hit and run.

Police now say a 26-year-old man the found badly injured in the middle of the road in the 12600-block of King George Boulevard on Friday was hit by a driver who took off after the collision.

The Surrey man was found with serious injuries at 11:55 p.m. on Dec. 4 and was tended to by paramedics who tried to revive him.

He was taken to hospital where he died.

Initial reports were that the man may have fallen off an overpass, but there were no witnesses.

Police now believe the man was hit by a red Honda Prelude between the years 1997 and 2001.

Investigators found a bumper torn from the vehicle, ostensibly after impact, leading police to believe it was the cause of the man’s injuries.

“If you have seen a red 1997 to 2001 Honda Prelude missing a piece of its front bumper, our investigators want to hear from you,” said Surrey RCMP Cpl. Scotty Schumann. “Any little bit of information could help officers advance this investigation and find the person responsible.”

Surrey RCMP reminds pedestrians and drivers to be mindful of the reduced visibility at this time of year. Drivers need to slow down and pedestrians need to wear bright clothing to reduce the likelihood of a collision. More information for drivers and pedestrians can be found on the Surrey RCMP’s and ICBC’s websites.

Anyone with more information about this collision is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers, if they wish to remain anonymous, at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or www.solvecrime.ca.
