Parents invited to info session on new Katzie Elementary

Katzie Elementary, one of three new schools being built in Surrey, will help ease overcrowding in fast-growing East Clayton.

Parents are invited to an information meeting this Tuesday evening to learn more about a new school under construction in Cloverdale that won't open for at least another year.

Katzie Elementary, one of three new schools being built in Surrey, will help ease overcrowding in the fast-growing residential enclave of East Clayton.

A new principal, Ross Brennan, has been appointed for the school, taking shape at 6687 194A Street. He won't officially assume his duties until April.

Tuesday's meeting takes place at 7 p.m., Jan. 8 at Hazelgrove Elementary (7057 191 Street), where Katzie students and staff will start off the 2013/14 school year in September, with plans to move to the new building once it's ready.

Parents will have an opportunity to meet principal Brennan and Hazelgrove  principal Mike Hurt, see drawings and plans for new elementary school, and hear some of the features of the building and school grounds.

Early in the new year a school transition committee will be formed that's headed up by the district superintendent and will include both principals, parents and staff from both schools.
