A man charged with sexually assaulting a 70-year-old South Surrey woman last year appeared briefly in Surrey Provincial Court today (Thursday, May 19).

On Aug. 12, 2015, a man broke into the home of a senior in the Grandview area of South Surrey. He produced a weapon and asked for cash and other items, police say.

When the woman was unable to produce money, the intruder physically and sexually assaulted her, police allege.

The man charged with the offence – Steven Thomas Morse – appeared in Surrey Provincial Court on Thursday morning to set a date for his next appearance.

The large-framed man with short, brown, wavy hair and a goatee rocked from side to side as he stood in the prisoner's box and listened to the brief proceedings.

None of the details of the appearance can be reported as they are subject to a publication ban.

Morse, a Langley resident, has been in custody since Sept. 4 and is scheduled to appear again in Surrey Provincial Court on Thursday, June 9 at 9:30 a.m.
