Surrey RCMP wants the public’s help to update its “strategic framework,” and is dangling prizes for those who complete an online survey.
One of three prizes to be drawn is lunch with Surrey RCMP’s top cop, Assistant Commissioner Dwayne McDonald. Also up for grabs is an iPad Air 2 and $50 Keg restaurant gift card.
The detachment seeks public input “to better understand what the community identifies as local policing priorities over the next five years.”
Stated McDonald: “We encourage everyone to provide their input to help us build a policing strategy that reflects the key issues and diverse concerns of our community.”
The detachment will also review and analyze recent trends in crime and public safety to help inform its 2018-2022 Strategic Framework, he added.
The online community survey can be found at surrey.rcmp-grc.gc.ca, and the contest closes on June 30.
Survey questions include the “level of concern,” from “significant” to “not a concern,” residents have about crime, including gang and gun violence, prostitution, distracted driving, problem properties and more.
Those surveyed are also asked how they would rate their current “feeling of safety compared to 12 months ago,” on a scale from “a lot safer” to “a lot less safe.”
Some history of policing in Surrey is included in the survey: “The RCMP has been contracted to provide municipal policing to the City of Surrey since 1951. Surrey has the largest RCMP detachment in Canada with over 830 police officers, 300 municipal employees, and 180 volunteers.”
