With Surrey's seemingly ever-growing school population, it might seem hard to believe a place like East Kensington Heritage School still exists.

It's tucked away at 2795 184 Street in Surrey, on a heritage site with natural surroundings, including a creek and a large, open grassy area.

Founded in 1899, the heritage school has 43 students this year in three divisions. Its small size is one of its greatest assets, along with a dedicated school community and teaching staff, drawing inevitable positive comparisons to Little House on the Prairie.

The school is accepting students from outside its catchment area, because there's room to grow.

Parents of prospective students are invited to find out more this Wednesday, April 23 at an open house running from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The school focuses on making strong connections with families and the community.

It offers specialized instruction, a focus on academics, daily access to technology like tablet computers for students, regular school events, and an on-site preschool, with a before and after-school care program in the works.
