The man who pleaded guilty to killing a Cloverdale realtor a year-and-a-half ago has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 17 years.
On July 12, 2015, realtor Colin Hill confronted Khouri Lamar Green, then 22, while he was trying to break into Hill's home in the 16500-block of 64 Avenue.
During the confrontation, Green shot and killed the 42-year-old Cloverdale resident. Green then fled in a stolen vehicle.
Hours later in Burnaby, RCMP were called to reports of a man brandishing a gun in an apartment complex and arrested Surrey's Green.
The court learned that Hill was shot and left to die in his son's arms.
"Losing my dad in my arms is the hardest thing I've ever had to face," Matthew Hill said in a victim impact statement read in court this week.
Hill also said his father saved the lives of the rest of their family by telling them to hide while he tried to stop Green from barging into the home.
Crown Counsel Selen Rail read a statement from Hill's eight-year-old daughter, Leah, who said she misses her dad.
"I don't smile anymore. My brother doesn't smile anymore. My mother doesn't smile anymore. We don't have a family anymore," Rail read.
Hill's wife, Becky, also wrote a statement that Rail read for the courtroom. She said she still doesn't know why Green came to their doorstep and killed her husband.
"Why would you do that? Why would you shoot my husband?" read Becky Hill's statement.
She adds he was a good husband and a good father.
