THE LATEST: IHIT called in after Surrey shooting victim dies in hospital, April 2, 2022

There was another shooting in Surrey on Friday afternoon (April 1), this time in the 12600-block of 97 Avenue, in Whalley.

Two suspects are in custody after a man, 48, was shot in a home there, according to Surrey RCMP Cpl. Vanessa Munn.

The unidentified victim is in hospital with life-threatening injuries, police reported late Friday afternoon.

Traffic was closed in both directions along 97 Avenue, between 126 and 128 streets, as officers canvassed the area.

Video by a Black Press Media freelancer shows police and paramedics on the scene.

Police responded to a report of a man with a gun at around 2:27 p.m. on April 1, Munn said.

“Two suspects fled the scene on bikes and police quickly flooded the area,” says news release from police. “Surrey RCMP Frontline officers, Community Response Unit, and policing partners with the Lower Mainland Integrated Teams were able to track the movements of the suspects and take them into custody.

“This was a very dynamic situation involving two suspects fleeing the scene of a shooting that has left a man in critical condition,” Munn added. “We are grateful for the quick arrest of these suspects by our officers and the assistance from our partners including the Air 1 Helicopter.”

Surrey RCMP General Investigations Unit asks anyone with more information about this shooting to call them at 604-599-0502.
