A Surrey man who killed his girlfriend and dumped her body in North Vancouver last year has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Harvey Bracken, 50, pleaded guilty to manslaughter last week in the death of 40-year-old Jennifer Ferguson.

Ferguson was reported missing by her family in January 2011. Her body was discovered in early February wrapped in plastic in a park area in North Vancouver.

Bracken had been living with Ferguson at the time she went missing and was arrested shortly after her body was recovered.

Last week, Cpl. Adam MacIntosh of IHIT (Integrated Homicide Investigation Team) indicated it was a case of domestic violence that ended fatally.

The court court heard the pair had been on a drug binge at the time of the killing.

The time Bracken has already spent in jail – 16 months – will be deducted from his sentence, meaning he'll be in prison for another two years, eight months.

He was sentenced in Vancouver Supreme Court on Tuesday (June 19).
