Canada Blood Services is urging donors to help fill demand in advance of the Labour Day long weekend by giving blood.

Canadian Blood Services has put out a call for blood donations in advance of the Labour Day long weekend, reminding residents of Cloverdale there is a clinic this Sunday.

All blood types are needed to help fill a gap of 32,000 units of blood needed to meet anticipated demand.

The Cloverdale Clinic runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at Cloverdale Catholic parish Centre, 17475 59 Avenue. The target there is 101 units.

"We've recorded fewer blood donations again this summer and we are urging people to join the community of selfless Canadians who give life by donating blood," said David Patterson, director of donor relations in the B.C. and Yukon region.

Canadian Blood Services manages the national supply of blood, blood products and stem cells, and related services, and is looking to recruit about 100,000 new donors in 2016 to replace the aging donor base.

To book an appointment, call 1-888-2DONATE, visit www.blood.ca, or download the GiveBlood app. Walk in appointments are also available at all clinics.
