Ivan Styles of Agassiz was arrested on in May 2023, then facing one count of child pornography possession. He now faces an additional breach of release order charge.

One year and seven months after facing his first court appearance for the latest charges against him, an Agassiz man faces a disposition hearing on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Ivan Styles faces one charge of possession of child pornography and one breach of release order. The initial charge of possession of child pornography dates back to April 2023 while the incident that led to the breach of release order is dated September of the same year.

A disposition hearing determines the final outcome of an arrest or prosecution.

In May 2023, Styles was arrested without incident at his Agassiz home for possession of child pornography. He was already on probation after being convicted of three counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of breach of undertaking or recognizance in October 2021. Styles was handed a nine-month conditional sentence order and four years of probation.

Styles was arrested earlier in 2023 for allegedly breaching court-ordered conditions. According to an investigation from the Agassiz RCMP, officers discovered what they believed to be child pornography on one of Styles' devices, which led to the arrest in May 2023.

In the weeks leading up to Styles' arrest, anonymous members of the Agassiz-Harrison community distributed and posted a number of fliers across the community with Styles' likeness on them, warning residents and visitors of his presence in the area. The local RCMP reminded the public that when "concerning individuals" enter the community, the local RCMP are monitoring them and ensuring they do not pose a risk. If there is a risk, the RCMP are expected to take action.

Styles was scheduled to undergo a court-ordered psychological evaluation last April. These exams are ordered to assess whether or not a doctor's report on the accused person's mental fitness is needed or to determine whether or not an offender can be classified as dangerous.
