Delta man and dog die in weekend accident

Luis Ronald Calderon Sanchez lost control of his vehicle on Highway 91 on Sunday night.

Crews attend the scene of a single vehicle accident where a Delta man was killed on Sunday.

A Delta man is dead after his car spun out of control near the Nordel off-ramp on Highway 91 on the weekend.

The Toyota Corolla was heading south on Highway 91 on Sunday at about 10:30 p.m. when the driver lost control, spun and hit a lamp standard directly on the driver’s side door.

Delta’s Luis Ronald Calderon Sanchez and his dog, both died at the scene.

“This is the second traffic fatality with 36 hours. Two families are mourning the loss of a loved one at a time when they should be celebrating the holiday season” said Sgt. Peter Thiessen of the Lower Mainland District RCMP. ” The public are remind to slow down and use extra caution when driving at this time of the year.”

No other vehicles were involved in the crash. Weather and speed are considered factors. It is unknown at this time if alcohol was involved. The ramp to Nordel Way was closed for six hours while the Deas Island Freeway Police investigated the incident.
